Overview

The University of Surrey is a campus university located in the town of Guildford in the southeast of England. The University has great connections to London, just 35 minutes away by train. Named ‘University of the Year' for 2016 in the Times & Sunday Times University Guide, there are around 16,000 students from over 140 different countries.

There are three faculties within the University: Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences; Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences and Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences all offering a range of undergraduate and postgraduate degrees.

The Manor Park site, is located just 20 minutes’ walk away and is home to more student accommodation, the School of Veterinary Medicine and the £36m Surrey Sports Park.

Surrey was recognised as an ‘outstanding’ institution when it received a prestigious Gold award in the first ever Teaching Excellence Framework, which is testament to the passion for inspiring students and preparing them for a bright future. The University produces highly employable graduates, with its courses designed to give the necessary skills and experience to excel in the working world. We prepare students for the world of work and the majority of our students take up a Professional Training placement as a part of their undergraduate degree.

Services for International Students

International students have access to support from the University of Surrey from the moment they decide to apply all the way until after they graduate. This includes:

  • Online student portal – MySurrey allows students to access support and advice at any hour of the day. They can also see someone in person via the MySurrey Hive.
  • Faith support – the university is a multi-faith and multi-cultural community, where there are spaces and support for students of all faiths and beliefs.
  • Study support – academic services include a dedicated department personal tutor, study spaces, resources and language support.
  • Students’ Union – as well as fun events and activities, the SU represents students and provides support with academic issues, accommodation and more.

There is also a dedicated International Student Support team who organise the free airport meet and greet service and orientation events for new overseas students at the start of the academic year.

Student Opportunities

The University works with over 2,300 partner organisations across the globe to provide opportunities for students to put their skills into practice and to experience a real working environment between their second and final year of undergraduate study. This includes international companies such as Boeing, Morgan Stanley, IBM and the Walt Disney Company. Students develop their personal, academic and professional skills over the course of a one year Professional Training placement.

Surrey works hard to help students meet their career goals. This is through employability, career management and entrepreneurship support, where students develop the qualities that employers look for in the global job market. An impressive 94% of University of Surrey graduates are in professional employment within six months of graduation (HESA 2018).

Students have the opportunity to take advantage of the Global Graduate Awards, which are a number of free extracurricular courses offered by the university. Along with the option of learning one of 11 different languages, the University also offers a Global Graduate Award in Sustainability.

University is the ideal opportunity to break out of your comfort zone and find a new hobby, or pursue an existing passion with like-minded people. Societies are made up of groups of students interested in a common theme – maybe you all love baking, share a geographical location or have similar political views. Joining one of Surrey's 130+ societies (or starting your own) will help you make friends and memories for life. ?The University also has over 47 sports clubs to join, including lacrosse, volleyball and football.
