Services for International Students

International Welcome Week is held at the beginning of the year to introduce international students to the UK, the University and each other. This includes a meet and greet service from Newcastle International Airport as well as workshops, talks and social events like quizzes and ceilidh (traditional dance). In partnership with INTO, Newcastle offers free in-sessional language support throughout the year, as well as pre-sessional courses.

Accommodation

Accommodation for international students is guaranteed for the first year of study. Newcastle University has almost 4,000 places available, about 25% of which are catered. Facilities vary, with en suite and standard rooms available, as well as larger single rooms and studio apartments. Self-catered rooms are generally arranged in flats with a shared kitchen. The Accommodation Service offers free advice for students looking to find private rented accommodation within Newcastle.

Location

Newcastle is regarded as the capital of the north-east of England, 544 km north of London. It is a lively, compact, cosmopolitan and student friendly city which is located on the banks of the River Tyne. It is famous for its world-class culture, vibrant nightlife, fascinating history, great shopping and beautiful architecture.

Stunning countryside and coastal scenery is within easy travelling distance of the city, including hills, lakes, castles and beautiful coastlines. The historic cities of Durham, York and Edinburgh are easy to reach by train or bus, while London is only a three-hour train journey away. Newcastle Airport has links to major cities including Paris, Barcelona and Amsterdam as well as a daily connection to Dubai.
