Overview

Edge Hill University was founded in 1885 and currently hosts 15,000 students. The University is known for the high quality of its Computing, Business and Teacher Training courses, and was awarded Times Higher Education 'University of the Year' Award in 2014 following nominations in 2008, 2011 and 2012, and most recently in 2020.

When assessed within the national Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF), Edge Hill University achieved the highest possible ranking of gold, for delivering ‘consistently outstanding teaching, learning and outcomes for its students’. Edge Hill has also been rated as a top 10 modern university by The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2020. Edge Hill is continually recognised for outstanding achievements in student support, graduate employment and innovation, as well as a significant role in transforming lives. 95.8% of Edge Hill students are employed or in further study within 15 months of graduating (Graduate Outcomes 2017/18).

Services for International Students

Edge Hill has a dedicated centre for international education which can provide support on visas, employment and accommodation whilst at the University. There is a meet and greet service from Manchester and Liverpool airports for new arrivals, followed by University orientation.

Once settled at the University, students can join the Global Friends programme, which puts current international students in touch with arriving students in order to provide support at the beginning of university life.

Pre-sessional English courses are also offered for undergraduate and postgraduate students, along with international foundation programmes.

Ranking

  • 70th in the Times University Guide 2021
  • 75th in the Guardian University Guide 2021

The most recent National Student Survey rated Edge Hill’s student union as joint best in the north-west and, following the 2014 Research Excellence Framework, all submitted subject areas featured ‘internationally excellent’ or ‘world-leading’ research.

Accommodation

International students are guaranteed a room in halls of residence. All Edge Hill accommodation is based on one campus, so all study and leisure facilities are close at hand. There are five areas of accommodation, holding around 1,700 students. More than two-thirds of rooms offer en suite facilities and 300 are available as catered accommodation.

The Accommodation Team can help students with finding private accommodation near the main campus. The town of Ormskirk has many shared houses and a free bus route and Liverpool is only half an hour away by train.
